Dear All, as many of you know there are hundreds of members’ clubs that have been doing a massive fiddle by pretending to be Community Amateur Sports Clubs (CASCs) and getting 80% business rate relief. That has saved many about £25,000 to £40,000 a year. Some have been in the scheme for nearly 10 years so that there are clubs that have fiddled this business rate relief of some £250,000. The rules on CASC are strict and clubs can only do catering as a social add-on to sport – no weddings, funerals, conferences etc. They also have to keep every penny from members and visitors totally separate. There are many huge clubs that have been on this fiddle – Finchley, Huddersfield, Saffron Walden, Royal St David’s, Nairn – literally hundreds of them. Lots with accommodation, civil ceremony certificates etc. So after a major campaign from AGCO HMRC has clamped down on it. But they don’t recover the fiddled business rates. That’s up to the local authorities. But as HMRC and the local authorities don’t speak much and both are totally corrupt or lazy it is down to other people to persuade the local authorities to claw back the fiddled money for the rate payer. Look at a good example as Brampton park in Huntingdonshire – a proprietary club operating a massive fiddle and then getting £250,000 of CASC benefit. These clubs are the equivalent of dole fiddlers – people who scrounge and fiddle housing benefit. The list of CASCs is in the public domain but has not been redrawn since October 2015. Basically one can say that the corrupt officials in HMRC want to protect these fiddling golf clubs and make sure they don’t get caught by their local authority. those of you up to speed on this and seeing your businesses affected by the CASC clubs have been waiting for the information to notify local authorities. So, from AGCO I sent a Freedom of Information request asking for the up to date CASC list or details of clubs de-registered. As one would expect, although the CASC list is in the public domain the corrupt officers of HMRC won’t let out the information. If anyone is in the constituency of Philip Hammond (now Chancellor) tell him.
Here is the copy of the Freedom of Information response. ( freedom-of-information-re-casc-clubs ) Little point appealing because HMRC is corrupt to the very top when it comes to protecting golf clubs. And here is the copy of the letter from the same HMRC person telling us that HMRC won’t chase the golf clubs; it’s up to the local authorities. Someone needs to explain to Theresa May that it doesn’t matter what great ideals she and her Cabinet have when the Civil Service and HMRC is so totally corrupted. Makes Nigeria look like a docile pussy cat.
Keep looking for the up-to-date CASC list but they will keep it under wraps. It’s a good way to let 600 golf clubs off about £100 million of fiddled business rate relief!
