Members of AGCO and others in the licensed trade are helping with a nationwide initiative “Operation Scott”. Operation Scott has various groups working with local licensing officers to get enforcement of licensing laws at these clubs.
Operation Scott is aiming at getting these clubs to shut their doors or to have proper licenses.
You can see the nature of the liquor license of your local members’ golf clubs. Search Find my local authority with their postcode. Then go to the local authority website, then to the licensing section and most have a public register which sets out the kind of license.
If your nearby members’ club is clearly breaking the law notify the local licensing office and quote Operation Scott. They should be up to speed on it.
It is important because these clubs shouldn’t be competing with you for weddings, societies and all the other business which involve alcohol. And remember to advertise for your own business “Licensed to serve alcohol”.
Wish Larry Grayson was still alive. He could shout “Shut that door!” outside these ever-so private members’ clubs.
